The 15-year-old boy from Maarssen who was arrested on Thursday, August 21, following a violence incident at a holiday park in Westerhoven will not be prosecuted. The boy was suspected of public violence, but after investigation, the Public Prosecution Service concluded that there is no legal and convincing evidence for this.

During the incident, a dispute arose between two groups during a paintball game, including tourists from Israel. Multiple persons reportedly used violence. A 37-year-old and a 41-year-old man from Israel were injured. A report of assault was filed against the 15-year-old boy.

Investigation

Under the direction of the public prosecutor, the police started an investigation into the events. After studying the final file, the Public Prosecution Service found that the incident was very chaotic. The statements of witnesses and the suspect differ. Other evidence, such as camera footage, is missing. Therefore, it is insufficiently established what exactly triggered the incident and who hit and/or kicked whom.

There were also mutual reports of discriminatory expressions during the violence incident. During the investigation, various parties were extensively heard and witnesses were interviewed. The investigation did not confirm such expressions.

Judgment

Considering all investigative findings, the Public Prosecution Service concludes that there is no legal and convincing evidence that the boy committed public violence. Therefore, the Public Prosecution Service will not prosecute, and the case against the suspect has been dismissed.
