Only 17 years old was the boy who on January 9, 2025, in Rosmalen attempted to liquidate a man. Today he had to appear before the court, now 18 years old. Due to his young age, the case was handled behind closed doors. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) demands the maximum juvenile detention of 24 months and youth TBS against him.

It is January 9 around 01:10 at night when the police receive a report of a possible shooting on the Kleine Vliet in Rosmalen. Shots and screams were heard, after which a car sped away. Because no report was made following the shooting incident, it took several days to determine whether shots were actually fired at someone. Camera footage and witness statements confirm this. Moreover, a sniffer dog finds a shell of a (semi-)automatic firearm at the location where the incident allegedly took place. Later, the victim still files a report. The police investigation then leads to the suspect, who at that time was only 17 years old.

Concerning

According to the OM, the suspect probably tried to liquidate the victim in exchange for money. The prosecutor: The suspect has committed one of the most serious criminal offenses conceivable in the Netherlands as a minor. That is extremely concerning. If he continues his life in this way, there is a great chance that he will commit more serious offenses or become a victim of a serious crime himself.

Juvenile Criminal Law

Since the suspect was a minor at the time of the incident, he is treated under juvenile criminal law. To protect society and prevent recidivism, the Public Prosecution Service demands the maximum sentence for minor offenders: 24 months of juvenile detention. In addition, the OM demands an unconditional PIJ measure (youth TBS) for the suspect, which means that the suspect must be intensively treated in a judicial youth institution. The judge will rule in two weeks.
