The man who broke into the building of the House of Representatives with a knife on February 13, 2025, is suspected of threatening a staff member of the House of Representatives, preparing for murder with terrorist intent, and disrupting a committee meeting of the House of Representatives. The man appeared today for the first time before the Hague court in the context of a preliminary hearing. The court has decided that he will remain in custody longer.
On February 13, the 19-year-old suspect traveled by train from Nijmegen to The Hague, where he entered the building of the House of Representatives with a knife. At the visitor entrance, he threatened a staff member and jumped over the access gates.
He then ran towards the committee rooms, where a meeting was taking place at that moment. The glass doors were automatically closed, and the suspect was overpowered and arrested.
Camera Footage
Camera footage shows how the suspect acts aggressively and purposefully. This gives the impression to the Public Prosecution Service that he intended to stab someone. According to the Public Prosecution Service, there are currently no indications that the action was aimed at a specific person.
The suspect will be examined by behavioral experts in the coming time. The next preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 30. The pre-trial detention has been extended by the court for as long as necessary. The case will be substantively addressed on October 15.
