The 22-year-old Jihaneve from Zoetermeer must have experienced terror in the last moments of her life. On July 18, 2024, she was stabbed and cut about 250 times by the suspect. Their newborn son was left helpless. The suspect (24) appeared before the court on Wednesday.
Family members and neighbors all had a similar view of the relationship between Jihaneve and the suspect: there were often arguments, the suspect was aggressive, demanding, controlling, and came across as stalker-like. He had just been released after the court convicted him for assaulting Jihaneve.
And yet she wrote at home in a note about the suspect: Everyone had already warned me, if he hits you once it will always happen. I just don’t want to believe it because I love you so much and I want my child to have a father too. Just under two weeks earlier, their son had been born, the victim had only eyes for the baby. And yet the suspect thought, without any reason, that she was cheating. The prosecutor was crystal clear about this on Wednesday: That was a delusion.
Stop! You’re killing me!
It was the staff member from the consultation bureau who raised the alarm that morning. When she arrived at the residence, she heard arguing and screaming: Stop! Stop! You’re killing me! Within minutes, the police were on the scene, who arrested the suspect and began resuscitation of the victim. Officers also took care of the baby they found in the living room.
Jihaneve had no chance with the injuries inflicted upon her. Among other things, a video and photos that the suspect made during the stabbing show that it must have lasted for minutes. The last moments of her life must have been hell. The pathologist counted at least 258 stab and cut wounds during the autopsy.
Psychosis
What the immediate cause of the argument and the stabbing was that morning is not clear from the suspects statement. He has given inconsistent statements about it. According to experts, the suspect has multiple disorders, including a personality disorder, and at the time of the stabbing, he was in a psychosis. After his arrest, he also maintained for a long time that the victim was not dead at all, but in a coma. She’s playing dead so they can make it worse for me. Someone is trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
In the meantime, the suspect is receiving medication, he is out of the psychosis and he does see that the victim died due to his actions. According to experts, he is partially accountable. But according to the prosecutor, he had at least some awareness of what he was doing and what the consequences would be. This is evident from the fact that he quickly took a photo with the baby while the police were already forcing the door open, because he knew he would be behind bars for a long time.
The Public Prosecution Service demands 10 years in prison and compulsory treatment for manslaughter against the suspect. The court will make a ruling in two weeks.
