The police arrested a 25-year-old man in Nieuwegein on suspicion of involvement in terrorist crimes.
The investigation was prompted by information from the AIVD. The man is believed to be an adherent of right-wing extremist ideology and sees himself as part of the struggle. He has also allegedly expressed violent intentions and may be in possession of a firearm.
The criminal investigation is being conducted by the National Detection and Intervention Unit (LO) of the police. During the search of the suspects home, phones and other data carriers were seized.
Additionally, two deactivated historical firearms and a double-edged bayonet were seized.
The man was presented to the examining magistrate at the Rotterdam court on Friday and has been placed in custody for two weeks.
