The police judge in Amsterdam today sentenced a 49-year-old man from Noordwijk to 40 hours of community service because he shouted ‘Sieg Heil. Netherlands for the Dutch’ during a demonstration against migration and gave the Hitler salute. The sentence is in accordance with the demand of the public prosecutor.

The shouting of the slogan and the giving of the Hitler salute took place during a demonstration on October 12, 2025. The demonstration was partly aimed against migration.

Giving the Hitler salute alone is not punishable in the Netherlands under the discrimination articles because making a gesture does not fall under the scope of these articles from the Criminal Code. However, the man immediately after the Hitler salute also shouted the slogan ‘Sieg Heil. Netherlands for the Dutch’. Such verbal expressions combined with the Hitler salute are punishable.

The public prosecutor at the hearing this afternoon: “The suspect with his actions on October 12 infringed on the rights of Jews and people with a migration background and harmed their honor and dignity. In the current society where polarization is present, such expressions and behaviors contribute to further polarization and the normalization of far-right violence and the dangerous far-right ideology.”
