Anyone speeding or running a red light at the N270 - Neervoortsedreef intersection in Helmond can expect a fine. On Monday, November 17, two new fixed speed cameras will be activated there. The municipality of Helmond, the police, and the Public Prosecution Service expect many drivers to adjust their driving behavior, improving traffic safety around the intersection.
These cameras enforce both speeding and ignoring red traffic lights. This is necessary where the A270 transitions into the N270, at the point where it crosses the Neervoortsedreef. Research shows that many dangerous situations arise there due to drivers exceeding the speed limit by a large margin. It is also regularly observed that cars run red lights, which is particularly risky.
Increasingly Busy
It is a busy intersection and will become even busier in the future. More and more traffic will come from the Neervoortsedreef towards the new residential area being built nearby. This increased traffic combined with the behavior of some drivers could cause many unsafe situations on the road in the coming years. That is why it is important to take action now against speeding and ignoring red lights.
24 Hours a Day
It has been proven that a speed camera has a positive effect on driving behavior and contributes to traffic safety. When drivers perceive a higher chance of being caught, they are more likely to follow the rules. The two speed cameras were installed in mid-October and tested during the past period. From November 17, 2025, all offenders will receive a fine. The cameras operate 24 hours a day and violations are immediately forwarded to the CJIB. After about three years, it will be evaluated whether the traffic situation has improved. The Public Prosecution Service will then assess, in consultation with the police and municipality, whether enforcement with speed cameras remains necessary.
