Public Prosecution Service: 6 years imprisonment and TBS for police officer suspected of indecent acts with minors

Investigations show that the man approached the young boys via social media. He engaged in sexually explicit conversations, shared nude photos, and arranged to have sex with some boys. He also told the boys he was a police officer and sent photos of himself in uniform.

Sexual chats

The case came to light in May 2024 when one of the victims reported to the police. The victim indicated having had sexually explicit chat conversations with the suspect. The suspect also sent a sexual video of himself to the victim. Following the report, the police started an investigation. Based on the video sent, the suspect was identified. On his phones, besides chats with the reporter, chats with other minors and child pornographic material were found.

From the chat conversations and statements of the victims, it appears that the suspect arranged to have sex with some boys. During sex, there were extreme acts such as tying up and use of sex toys. The suspect also recorded videos during sex. The suspect later admitted that acts took place and that he sent and received sexual images but said he could not remember everything and did not know the boys were minors. The suspect is not a police officer but is active as a police employee in Central Netherlands. The investigation showed that in December 2023 he looked up the age of one of the victims via police systems.  

Irreparable damage

According to the public prosecutor, this case involves very serious offenses with severe consequences for the victims. It is important that the sexual development of adolescents is not disturbed by improper interference from an adult, the prosecutor explained in court. Therefore, clear age limits are included in the law. “The suspect, as an adult, did not respect the age limits and disrupted, damaged, and caused irreparable harm to the sexual development of the victims.”

The suspect mostly targeted vulnerable boys and explicitly abused his role as a police officer, which the OM considers very serious. The extreme nature of the acts and the fact that the suspect recorded videos of them is also considered very serious by the OM.

Sentence demand

For committing such serious crimes, the OM believes only a long prison sentence is appropriate. When determining the sentence demand, the prosecutor also considered the suspects personal circumstances. Psychological research shows that the suspect has reduced accountability due to the presence of various disorders. The chance that the suspect will reoffend after conviction is also considered high. All things considered, the OM demands a prison sentence of 6 years, followed by TBS with compulsory treatment.

The court will pronounce its verdict on 24 February 2026.
