The public prosecutor has today demanded a prison sentence of sixteen years against a 21-year-old man suspected of shooting a 26-year-old man on February 25, 2024. This occurred after a party at a party center on Rhoneweg in Amsterdam.
The victim had attended a party with friends at a party center on Rhoneweg in Amsterdam on February 25, 2024. When he wanted to leave from a parking lot about a hundred meters away after the party, he was fired upon by a shooter. Not long after, he died in the hospital from his injuries.
The suspect, whose case was discussed today in court, was apprehended a few days later - on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 - at the airport in Paris. The firearm he used was found on the street and was left there by an acquaintance of the suspect.
Argument
The suspect stated that an argument had arisen after the party between him and a group he recognized as members of Zone6, a rap formation from the Holendrecht district. During that argument, he claimed to have been threatened by the later victim.
The police reviewed hours of footage, but the shooting incident itself is not visible in the footage. The many headlights of cars that were driving on Rhoneweg at the time of the shooting blinded the cameras view of the incident. However, in footage where sound was also recorded, it can be heard that the suspect shouted to his friends at 05:19 that he wanted to go home to get a firearm. Subsequently, he is heard asking a friend for a firearm. It is then visible on the footage that he is handed a firearm.
Man slaughter
Based on the forensic investigation, the camera footage, and the confession made by the suspect, it can be proven that the suspect is responsible for the death of the 26-year-old rapper. According to the Public Prosecution Service, this is a case of manslaughter and not murder because the suspect had not made a plan beforehand to kill the victim.
The public prosecutor this morning in her indictment: “Shooting at the victim with a firearm and thereby taking his life is a very serious case of manslaughter. The suspect, who was very intoxicated, took a firearm on the public road and shot at the victim. The ease with which the suspect asked friends for a firearm and then went on to shoot at people is unprecedented.”
The public prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of sixteen years on suspicion of manslaughter.
The court will announce its verdict on April 11.
