The Public Prosecution Service Limburg (OM) demanded today 5 years unconditional with deduction for pre-trial detention and TBS with compulsory treatment against a 25-year-old man from Lithuania. According to the OM, the suspect repeatedly stabbed a man and a woman in their home in Voerendaal with a pruning shear in the face, head, and body: Without any provocation or reason, he inflicted great pain on two people in a fit of disturbed state and instilled fear in them, said the prosecutor in court. For both victims, it was as if death stood in the hallway.
The man hears someone walking by his house on Friday evening, March 10, 2024, and thinks that the visitor has forgotten something. He opens the front door. It turns out not to be the visitor, but the suspect who immediately attacks him, kicking and hitting him. The suspect has a pruning shear in his hands, with which he stabs the man. He hits him in the head and neck, among other places. The woman hears her partner screaming and goes downstairs to see what is happening. In the hallway, she sees a person standing and her partner lying on the ground. The woman tries to push the suspect away from her man, after which the suspect stabs at her. A further bloodbath follows. Nevertheless, the woman manages to call the police. The suspect flees. The police arrest the suspect the next morning in Heerlen based on the description.
Investigation
Further investigation shows that the suspect has no criminal record. To this day, the OM is unclear about the motives of the suspect. Experts have determined that there is evidence of schizophrenia and a severe disorder in the use of alcohol and drugs.
Great impact
The prosecutor: Incidents like these cause feelings of insecurity in society. If this can happen to someone else, can it also happen to me? It is a valid question. We can assume that Mr. and Mrs. will never open a front door without hesitation again. The same goes for their family, friends, and neighbors. This bizarre fact has a great impact. The OM finds 5 years unconditional with deduction for pre-trial detention and TBS with compulsory treatment appropriate and necessary in this case.
The verdict will be in two weeks.
