The Public Prosecution Service demands 16 months imprisonment, 8 conditional, for a 40-year-old man from Nijmegen. He is suspected of computer trespassing, threats, doxing, and stalking colleagues. Several colleagues were victims of his behavior. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect logged in unlawfully multiple times to the system of the dental practice where he worked. He stole personal data of colleagues and subsequently misused it in various ways.
The first report of stalking was received by the police in November 2023. Four months later, it appeared that many more colleagues were victims. This caused much fear and unrest at the dental practice. The suspect was arrested in October 2024 after extensive police investigation.
To one of the victims, the suspect sent very gruesome photos with threatening texts such as you are next. He also sent sexually explicit photos with the victims head photoshopped onto them. He sent such messages to her family members as well. Furthermore, the suspect created fake advertisements on Marktplaats for several colleagues using their personal data. Because of this, colleagues had strange people at their door all evening looking for free bicycles. He also signed energy contracts in the name of some colleagues and threatened to publish personal data on the internet. He sent dismissal emails from one colleague to another. The criminal file contains a long list of such offenses.
The suspect denied involvement during police interrogation. At the hearing, he admitted all accusations. He stated that his behavior stemmed from accumulated psychological pressure because he felt discriminated against at work. The public prosecutor said: The victims are mainly people who have confronted the suspect about his behavior or work. From the Public Prosecution Services perspective, this is not a reaction to an extreme situation, as he claims, but rather a series of extreme reactions towards people who stood in his way at work. The suspect anonymously caused fear among many of his former colleagues. He deprived the victims of a normal life. Their sense of safety is gone.
After his arrest, the suspect was detained for 42 days. Afterwards, the pre-trial detention was suspended. The public prosecutor argued that the suspect should return to prison: Another sentence would not do justice to the seriousness of the facts. She further stated that besides the unconditional part, a substantial conditional part should be imposed. This is necessary to ensure the suspect does not reoffend and complies with the condition to undergo treatment. The Public Prosecution Service demands, in addition to 16 months imprisonment of which 8 are conditional, also a restraining order against the victims.
