A 32-year-old man from Oss is today facing a 10-year prison sentence for his role in a grenade attack on a home in Eindhoven in September 2018. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect is seen as the instigator and facilitator of the attack.
That night, three men drove to the home in Eindhoven and tried to break the living room window. However, the three attackers did not manage to completely destroy the window. This meant the grenade could not be thrown inside. Investigation shows that the suspect promised to pay them double if they returned to finish the job. It also emerged that the parties involved kept in contact. For example, the man from Oss brought the men a sledgehammer to break the window.
The three men eventually returned and threw the grenade inside. Forensic research shows that it was a grenade used by the military. The grenade contained, besides an explosive charge, thousands of pellets that shoot out in a wide radius. At close range, the effect is deadly. Not only was the hallway severely damaged, but pellets were also found in the stairwell. Remarkably, the residents were not injured.
Suspect gave the order
According to the public prosecutor, the suspect is guilty of attempted murder of the residents. “The suspect involved others to do the dirty work. Like the residents, the co-defendants took significant risks. The risk that something would go wrong and they themselves would be killed or injured, and the risk of being caught by the police. The suspect thought this way he would remain off the radar and not be caught. His behavior shows sophistication and deep roots in crime. He has control over a violent gang to deploy as he wishes.”
Long prison sentences for perpetrators
The three men who carried out the attack at the home previously received sentences between 10 and 30 years. Not only for this attack but for multiple violent crimes. One of the suspects received a 30-year sentence for this attack and his role in a liquidation in Schaijk of a 51-year-old man from Nistelrode.
The man from Oss is currently serving a 10-year sentence for criminal offenses such as arms trafficking, drug trafficking, and participation in a criminal organization. The public prosecutor: “The severity of the crime calls for a long prison sentence. Besides the purpose of punishment, protection of society also applies: society must be protected against the life-threatening behavior of the suspect.
The judge is expected to give a verdict in two weeks.
