In the early hours of May 4, 2024, a man was awakened by a lot of noise and a loud distress call. The sound came from the home of his neighbor on Nieuwendijk in the center of Amsterdam. The alerted police found the 56-year-old neighbor dead in that home. She had been stabbed and cut multiple times. The Public Prosecution Service suspects the womans boyfriend (51) of having killed her.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, multiple traces point to the 51-year-old boyfriend from Tiel. Blood traces of both her and him were found in the victims home, as well as a fingerprint of the suspect in her blood on the washing machine. A blood trail led from her home to the parking lot where his car was parked. Blood traces were also found in his vehicle.
Distress call
Camera footage from a sauna near the victims home shows that the suspect was at her home between 00:30 and 02:50 on the night of May 4, 2024. According to the medical examiner, the woman died around 01:00. A neighbor stated that he heard a lot of noise during those hours and around 02:50 heard a distress call that went through bone and marrow.
After earlier denials, the suspect admitted he was at her place that night but denies involvement in her death. He speaks of a “blissful relationship” and says he went home on socks due to painful toenails. His shirt and shoes seen on the camera footage have not been found.
Telling
The public prosecutor calls his statements unbelievable and points to the many indications linking him to the womans death. He is said to have left the house and tried to erase his traces. He even sent messages to the victim the day after the incident as if he knew nothing. According to the public prosecutor, it is “telling” that the suspect keeps changing his explanation about the cause of his injuries and also adjusts his statements to the file.
In determining the sentence, the public prosecutor took into account the extremely violent manner in which the 56-year-old woman was killed. “Not only was she attacked so aggressively that the knives broke, but the autopsy report also shows that she did not die immediately. Instead of caring for the victim after his act, he let her die and then only worried about how to avoid his sentence,” said the public prosecutor.
Manslaughter
To this day, he has given no clarity.
Today, the Public Prosecution Service demanded a sixteen-year prison sentence for manslaughter against the 51-year-old man from Tiel for killing his 56-year-old girlfriend. According to the Public Prosecution Service, there is no indication that the man murdered his ex-girlfriend.
The court will give its verdict on December 3.
