The Public Prosecution Service does not want an 18-year-old man from Zoetermeer, who is suspected of involvement in a fatal accident on September 19 at Lammenschansweg in Leiden, to be released. He was presented to the examining magistrate on Monday.
The suspect is said to have been involved in a fatal accident on September 19 at Lammenschansweg in Leiden. According to the Public Prosecution Service, there is reckless driving in this case. The investigation reveals that the suspect ignored the red traffic light at high speed. He was reportedly driving over 90 kilometers per hour, where 50 kilometers per hour is allowed. He passed the vehicles that had stopped via the bus lane. In the ensuing accident, a 17-year-old cyclist lost his life.
The suspect was arrested on the spot. The examining magistrate decided on Monday to suspend the pre-trial detention of the man, which means he will be released under conditions while awaiting the investigation. The Public Prosecution Service does not agree with this decision and is appealing.
