The Public Prosecution Service East Netherlands has initiated a criminal investigation following a report from care organization ZorgAccent into a caregiver who worked at a residential care facility of ZorgAccent. The 29-year-old woman was arrested on Monday, January 19, and will appear before the examining magistrate on Thursday, January 22.

The woman is suspected of deliberately administering insulin to three residents without medical necessity. As a result, the blood sugar levels of these residents reportedly dropped to (life-) threatening levels. She is charged with attempted murder or attempted manslaughter, or causing serious bodily harm.

The care organization had already taken labor law measures against the woman at an earlier stage. The criminal investigation continues. The close family members of the involved residents have been informed. In the interest of the investigation and due to the privacy of both the suspect and the victims and their families, no further statements are made.
