The Public Prosecution Service in East Netherlands is prosecuting a 44-year-old man from Nieuw-Vennep for fraud. The man allegedly posed as a recognized and certified expert for the storage and diagnostics of body-owned material.
The man had previously submitted applications to obtain recognition under the Law on Safety and Quality of Body Material and as an organ bank. This recognition was denied on the advice of the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate. The Public Prosecution Service suspects the man of having carried out business activities for which he had no recognition.
The man allegedly persuaded parents of newborn children to store body-owned material for a fee. He allegedly misled the parents into believing that the stem cells in that material could be used in the future for the potential treatment of diseases. On the companys websites, the man created the impression of being affiliated with recognized institutions and working according to established protocols.
Following reports, the man was heard as a suspect in 2023. A preparatory hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, at the court in Arnhem.
