Four young men from Utrecht will be prosecuted for spreading a so-called bangalijst. This list circulated on the internet and in group chats in March 2024. The content consisted of names, personal details, and photos of female students, along with various sexual, crude, and insulting remarks. The four men are suspected of disseminating a document with offensive content.
Members of Student Association
The investigation revealed six suspects, all members of the student association USC. It has been established that two of the suspects did not disseminate the list. The cases against them have therefore been dropped.
The other four men are indeed suspected of spreading the bangalijst. According to the Public Prosecution Service, they shared the list with other students. They will have to answer to the court for this.
Ultimately, the list was also spread outside the circle of suspects and became public on the internet and in app groups, with significant consequences for the victims. The investigation did not reveal who ultimately made the list public.
Second List
In addition to this investigation, research has been conducted into a second bangalijst. A 26-year-old man from Groningen has been arrested. He is suspected of doxing, threats, and coercion. This is a separate criminal case and will be brought before the court at a later date. This suspect has no link to the Utrecht student world.
