The National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the death of a 40-year-old man from Poland. He died on Monday, June 9, after being arrested by the police. The National Criminal Investigation Department would like to contact witnesses who saw the man being arrested.
On June 9, 2025, at approximately 17:20, officers saw a car driving the wrong way on the Prins Bernhardviaduct in The Hague. Upon inspection, it turned out that one of the occupants was wanted for deportation to Poland. He fled on foot and after a chase, he could be arrested at 17:30 on the Lamsgroen in The Hague. He resisted this arrest. After the police had the suspect under control, he was taken to the police station on Jan Hendrikstraat in The Hague. At some point, he became unwell. The police attempted to resuscitate the man, but help was in vain.
As is customary in such situations, the National Criminal Investigation Department conducts an investigation to gain more insight into the cause of death. Whether violence was used by the man or the police will be part of the investigation. Because this investigation is still ongoing, the Public Prosecution Service cannot comment further on the case. It concerns a so-called factual investigation.
