The examining magistrate of the court in Northern Netherlands has decided today that a 26-year-old man from Veendam will remain detained for fourteen more days. He is suspected of involvement in the death of a two-year-old boy in Veendam. The boy died under suspicious circumstances in January 2024.
On Thursday, November 13, 2025, three people were arrested by the police in this investigation. Of these three people, one was released. A 25-year-old woman from Veendam remains in custody. Later this week, it will be decided whether she will be brought before the examining magistrate.
The suspects still in custody are currently under restrictions. This means they may only have contact with the outside world through their lawyer. This also makes the Public Prosecution Service cautious in sharing information.
