The Public Prosecution Service has dropped the case against the Rotterdam alderman and concluded that he was wrongly identified as a suspect. This is the outcome based on the investigation conducted by the National Criminal Investigation Department.
The National Criminal Investigation Department started an investigation on April 9 to determine whether the Rotterdam alderman himself had ordered arson at his house. The reason for this was that the 37-year-old Rotterdammer who actually set the fire, and who has since been convicted for it, previously stated that he did this at the request of intermediaries. These intermediaries would, according to the still-suspected individual, have acted at the behest of the alderman.
The investigation has now been completed. The conclusion is that the case is being dropped because the Public Prosecution Service found no evidence in the investigation that the alderman would be involved in the arson. There were indications of suspicion prior to the national investigation. The investigation has shown that this suspicion is not correct.
