The Public Prosecution Service demanded 40 months of imprisonment today against a 29-year-old man from Den Bosch, held responsible for preparatory actions regarding the import and trade of hard drugs and money laundering.
The man was arrested in January 2023. Based on encrypted chat messages and photos of alleged drugs, it became clear that the man was making preparations for importing and trading drugs. Encrypted messages also revealed that the man had a sum of €400,000 moved and that he possessed expensive watches. Some of these watches were found during a search.
Process Agreement
During the hearing, the public prosecutor explained the process agreement: ‘The Public Prosecution Service aims to make the handling of this criminal case as efficient as possible by making process agreements.’ The advantage of process agreements is that capacity for other investigations becomes available, and the criminal justice chain is relieved. A suspect knows more quickly where they stand with a process agreement. In exchange for a lower sentence demand, the suspect waives research requests, defenses against the charges, and appeals.
Given the seriousness of the suspicion and the longer period during which the man committed the criminal offenses, the Public Prosecution Service believes that a prison sentence of 58 months would have been appropriate. As part of the process agreement, a sentence demand of 40 months imprisonment has been included.
Judgment
Apart from the agreement made, the court independently assesses whether there is sufficient evidence and what punishment is appropriate. The court will deliver its judgment in this case on September 4.
