On Friday evening, November 7, the police were requested by the crisis service to come to a residence on Ruygeplaat in Rozenburg. Upon arrival around 6:00 PM, officers were confronted inside the house with a man wielding a knife, after which police fired shots and the man died. The victim was a 30-year-old man residing in the home. 

An ambulance and a trauma helicopter were called, but unfortunately, aid could no longer help.

National Police Internal Investigations Department

The National Police Internal Investigations Department was immediately involved after the incident and is conducting an investigation. This is standard procedure when officers are involved in incidents with fatal outcomes. The department is part of the Public Prosecution Service, and the investigation is led by a public prosecutor. Once the investigation is completed, the Public Prosecution Service will assess whether the police actions were lawful. The spokesperson for this case is the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam.

The police and the Public Prosecution Service understand that the event raises many questions about what exactly happened. Careful investigation is necessary to obtain those answers. As soon as information can be shared, the Public Prosecution Service will do so.
