At around 4:15 PM on Sunday afternoon, the police received a report of a robbery of a fatbike on the Wisselspoor in Capelle aan den IJssel, where the victim was reportedly threatened with a firearm. Shortly thereafter, officers found the suspect on the Hoofdweg.

Because the suspect was seen with a firearm, a BTGP was carried out. This stands for a dangerous suspect approach technique, which officers use when approaching a suspect who poses a firearm threat. The suspect fled, and the police warned him several times, after which the police fired shots. Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the 15-year-old boy from Gouda, but unfortunately, it was too late. The suspect died at the scene. A firearm was found at the location of this incident. Whether it is a real firearm will be determined by investigation.

Following the investigation into the robbery on the Wisselspoor, the police arrested two more suspects, a 15-year-old boy from Rotterdam and a 15-year-old boy from Gouda. They are still in custody.

National Police

The National Police has been called in and is conducting an investigation. This is standard procedure when officers are involved in incidents with fatal outcomes. The National Police is part of the Public Prosecution Service, and the investigation is led by a public prosecutor. Once the investigation is complete, the Public Prosecution Service will assess whether the polices actions were lawful. The communication regarding this case is handled by the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam.

The police and the Public Prosecution Service understand that the incident raises many questions about what exactly happened. Careful investigation is needed to get those answers. As soon as something can be shared about it, the Public Prosecution Service will do so.
