Three individuals are suspected of luring a man under false pretenses to a park in Apeldoorn, subsequently assaulting him and attempting to extort him under threat of an object resembling a firearm, and remain in custody for a longer period.
The victim arranged a meeting via a dating app on the evening of July 2 in Park Zuidbroek. Once there, he was assaulted by a group of boys and men, and (under threat of an object resembling a firearm) an attempt was made to take his phone from him.
The victim sustained minor injuries and immediately called 112 after the incident. This allowed the police to apprehend the first suspect near the park that same evening. The other three suspects were apprehended at a later time.
These include three minors and one 20-year-old man from the municipality of Lochem. They were presented to the examining magistrate yesterday. Three of the four suspects are being held for an additional 14 days. The fourth - one of the minors - has had their detention suspended.
The victims sexual orientation may underlie the incident. This possible (discriminatory) nature is currently under investigation. The preliminary suspicion is attempted extortion in association.
