The man suspected of having killed his ex-partner on May 24 last year in Goirle has died. He took his own life in his cell in Krimpen aan de IJssel. The criminal investigation into the murder has thus been concluded. Today was the substantive hearing of the investigation in which the Public Prosecution Service (OM) has been declared inadmissible.
The substantive treatment of the murder of the 43-year-old woman from Goirle was scheduled today in the court of Breda. During the public hearing, the prosecutor asked the court to declare the Public Prosecution Service inadmissible in the prosecution. Article 69 of the Penal Code states that the right to prosecution ceases upon the death of the suspect.
The OM is aware that it is particularly unsatisfactory that the criminal case has not been addressed, leaving relatives with many questions. The prosecutor stated in the hearing that despite the suspects confession, in which he says he killed his ex-girlfriend with a hammer, the full truth about the why can never be uncovered in this femicide case.
“This end of this criminal case gives the son of the victim, her sisters, and all other family members, friends, and acquaintances an unsatisfactory feeling. Justice will not prevail, and this is also difficult for the OM, society, and the rule of law we live in to process,” said the prosecutor.
