The Public Prosecution Service has imposed a community service sentence of thirty hours on a 36-year-old police officer from The Hague for computer trespass. The man accessed information in the police system four times without a valid work-related reason. The information he sought was for personal interests.
The man made the inquiries on four occasions in March, August, and September 2023.
The Public Prosecution Service takes such unlawful inquiries seriously. Police systems contain sensitive personal information about citizens. Therefore, officers must not consult those systems for personal benefit, personal involvement, or curiosity. Furthermore, it must be prevented that police information is leaked to criminals or other interested parties. For this reason, it is important that police systems are consulted only to the extent necessary for the execution of police duties.
During a Public Prosecution Service hearing, the public prosecutor imposed a community service sentence of thirty hours. The defendant accepted this.
