Last Thursday, October 9, a 21-year-old man from Amsterdam and a 22-year-old man from Weesp were arrested on suspicion of importing and storing, among other things, six hundred Cobra fireworks. Yesterday, both men were brought before the examining magistrate who placed them in custody for a period of fourteen days.
The police began their investigation following a message on Telegram with a video in which presumably professional fireworks were offered for sale. This message was found to be linked to one of the arrested suspects.
After researching online the address of one of the business premises of the 21-year-old suspect, it was found that the floor color of that premises matched the floor color in the relevant video. After searching the premises, not only were six hundred Cobra fireworks seized, but also other professional fireworks, several data carriers, cash, and a fake Rolex watch.
Storing such a large quantity of Cobra fireworks in a residential area poses serious safety risks due to their highly explosive power. It is also known that Cobra fireworks are used in attacks because of their destructive power. This causes, in addition to material damage, great fear among residents.
