A 24-year-old man from The Hague has been arrested for involvement in a fatal shooting in The Hague on April 18. The suspect fled abroad after the shooting.
On Friday evening, April 18, around 7:50 PM, a 21-year-old resident of The Hague was shot at the corner of Paets van Troostwijkstraat and Oudemansstraat. It is believed that a rip deal occurred, in which the victim was robbed. Shortly thereafter, the victim died in the hospital from his injuries.
During the investigation, the 24-year-old suspect emerged as the shooter. He had fled abroad the same night and had been residing in Somalia since then. Last Sunday, he returned to the Netherlands after prior notification to the Public Prosecution Service and was arrested at the airport. The suspect was presented to the examining magistrate on Wednesday, who extended his pre-trial detention by two weeks.
Earlier Suspect Arrested
On April 20, a 22-year-old resident of The Hague was already arrested for involvement in the shooting. He is believed to have driven the getaway car. He appeared before the judge for the second time on Wednesday during a pro forma hearing.
Both men are suspected of complicity in qualified manslaughter.
