The man, who was not present at the ruling and whose location was unknown, was convicted on appeal for killing his girlfriend and hiding her body.
As part of the ruling the Court ordered that the man must be taken into custody immediately. Given the seriousness of the offense and the Courts order, the Public Prosecution Service and the police started an investigation that same day into the mans location. Police officers from several units undertook various actions and conducted extensive investigations on April 8 to find the suspect. This extensive search led to the suspect, who usually resided in the province of Utrecht, being arrested shortly before midnight in Friesland. Thanks to the prompt police work, the Courts order was executed the same day.
