The shooting occurred on Sunday around noon in a supermarket in Vlissingen, in the presence of customers and staff. A 44-year-old man from Vlissingen was shot and died on the spot from his injuries. Shortly after the incident, the police arrested the suspected shooter in the vicinity, where a firearm was also found. The 23-year-old man from Vlissingen is suspected of murder or manslaughter.
The Public Prosecution Service has requested the examining magistrate to issue a detention order, and that request was granted today. This means that the pre-trial detention of the suspect has been extended by fourteen days.
