On July 2, 2025, a suspect in a Dutch criminal investigation was extradited to the Netherlands from the United Arab Emirates. The suspect is a 29-year-old man from Delft who emerged in an investigation into drug trafficking by the Police and Public Prosecution Service in The Hague (OM).

Investigation

The OM suspects the man of trafficking in hard drugs. Various chat conversations indicate that the suspect had contacts regarding drug trafficking over an extended period. A firearm was found during a search of his home. He is suspected not only of drug trafficking and possession of a firearm but also of money laundering.

While the suspect was in the United Arab Emirates, the OM made procedural agreements with him through his lawyer. The hearing in this case is scheduled for August 27.

Cooperation

The suspect was untraceable in the Netherlands. Investigations revealed that he was likely residing in the United Arab Emirates. Due to the good cooperation between the authorities in the United Arab Emirates and those in the Netherlands, the suspect could be extradited. Since August 1, 2023, the bilateral extradition treaty between the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands has come into effect. This treaty proves its worth in practice: the number of extraditions from the United Arab Emirates is increasing, making it less likely for criminals to feel safe there.
