In the investigation into the fire and explosion at an apartment complex in Heerhugowaard last Thursday, April 10, there is currently one adult suspect in custody. This is a 19-year-old man from the municipality of Opmeer. He was presented to the examining magistrate today, Monday, April 14, who decided that the suspect must remain in custody for another 14 days.
In total, there are currently five suspects in this case. Four of them, all minors, are no longer in custody. They are still suspects and are suspected of involvement in the explosion/fire. These are four teenagers from the municipality of Dijk en Waard. The investigation so far indicates that they seem to have played a lesser role in the overall situation than the 19-year-old suspect who is still in custody. He is suspected of causing an explosion, arson (Article 157 of the Penal Code), and violating the Weapons and Munitions Act by having an explosive in his possession.
The 19-year-old suspect was presented to the examining magistrate today, Monday, April 14, who decided that the suspect must remain in custody for another 14 days.
