A 37-year-old man without a fixed residence was arrested at the request of the Cape Verdean authorities on Wednesday, April 23, by the Special Intervention Service (DSI) in Schiedam. He is a native of Rotterdam without a fixed residence. He is suspected of involvement in two homicides in January and April 2024 in the city of Mindelo.
After an investigation by the Cape Verdean police, the net closed around the suspect, but he had already fled. The justice of the island group off the coast of West Africa ensured that the suspect was internationally wanted. In the Netherlands, he could be traced after an investigation by the Rotterdam Police Unit.
Because the suspect has Dutch nationality, he cannot be extradited, and the Rotterdam Public Prosecution Service has been asked to take over the criminal case. The suspect was presented to the examining magistrate on Friday, April 25, who determined that he would remain in custody for two more weeks. Due to the investigation, no further statements can be made.
