A 25-year-old man from Sittard remains in custody for fourteen more days on suspicion of murder or (qualified) manslaughter of Xavier Durlinger. This was decided by the examining magistrate of the Limburg court on May 15 at the request of the Public Prosecution Service.
The suspect, who was arrested on May 12, had previously been detained in April 2023. After spending several months in pre-trial detention, he was released by the court in September 2023. New investigative information led to the re-arrest of the now 25-year-old man.
New Investigative Information
The most important new information comes from an image comparison investigation conducted by the NFI. The results of that investigation support the claim that the suspect is the cyclist seen shortly after the presumed time of the murder on surveillance footage at the bottom of the Kollenberg and later on the Jozef Israëlsstraat in Sittard.
The body of Xavier Durlinger was found on May 19, 2022, on the Kollenberg. In June 2022, a cap and waist bag taken from him were found in bushes extending from the Jozef Israëlsstraat.
In the interest of the ongoing investigation, the Public Prosecution Service will not provide further statements regarding this case.
