The 30-year-old man of Ukrainian nationality who was arrested on Thursday, March 27, on suspicion of involvement in the stabbing incident in Amsterdam that resulted in five victims, will remain in custody for at least ninety more days. This was decided by the Council Chamber of the Amsterdam court today.
The Council Chamber of the Amsterdam court has today ordered the detention for a period of ninety days. The man is suspected of five counts of attempted murder and/or manslaughter with terrorist intent.
The terrorist intent relates to the actions of the suspect. By stabbing what appeared to be five completely randomly chosen victims in broad daylight in the busy city center of Amsterdam within a matter of minutes with knives, with the apparent goal of killing them, he, according to the Public Prosecution Service, had the evident aim of instilling fear in the population.
The investigation is still ongoing and various scenarios are still being considered. The suspect is under restrictions, meaning he may only have contact with his lawyer. This is a reason for the Public Prosecution Service to be cautious in providing information.
