Suspect of fivefold stabbing in Amsterdam remains in custody longer

The 30-year-old man of Ukrainian nationality who was arrested last Thursday, March 27, on suspicion of involvement in the stabbing incident in Amsterdam that resulted in five victims, will remain in custody for at least another fourteen days. This was decided by the examining magistrate this afternoon.

The examining magistrate of the Amsterdam court has placed the man in custody for a period of fourteen days. The man is suspected of five counts of attempted murder or manslaughter with a terrorist intent.

Of the five victims who fell in the stabbing incident, four are still in the hospital. Their condition is stable.

The police investigation led by two public prosecutors continues. The suspect is under restrictions, meaning he may only have contact with his lawyer. This is a reason for the Public Prosecution Service to be cautious in providing information.
