The two boys, aged 16 and 17 from Schiedam, who were involved in an incident on Monday, January 5, in which a 60-year-old man died, were presented today to the examining magistrate. They are suspected of assault and public violence resulting in death. The examining magistrate has decided to release both suspects.

The 17-year-old was released due to his limited involvement in the facts, and the 16-year-old because the examining magistrate found insufficient evidence that his actions led to the victims death.

The incident took place on Van Limburg Stirumstraat in Schiedam, following a conflict after snowball throwing. Witnesses report that violence was used on both sides.

What exactly preceded the incident is part of the ongoing investigation. The victims body was examined by the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). It has become clear that the victims fragile health may have played a role in this tragic outcome.
