The Public Prosecution Service prosecutes four men (48, 34, 20, 35) and one woman (62) for vandalizing the city hall in Tilburg. They are residents of Tilburg, Oirschot, Hilversum, and Goirle who must account for their actions before the police judge.
At the city hall, a demonstration was taking place by the activist group Extinction Rebellion when several suspects, some of whom were wearing face coverings, ran towards the building and sprayed green paint on the facades and windows. By acting in this way, they created a sense of insecurity. Officers intervened and took the five individuals to the police station. After they provided a statement there, the suspects were sent home.
The right to demonstrate is an important right in the Constitution, but no destruction is allowed. The municipality of Tilburg has filed a complaint against the five suspects. The five are suspected by the Public Prosecution Service of public violence against property or vandalism.
The paint has since been removed from the windows. For the walls, a specialized company must be engaged. When the five suspects will appear before the police judge is still unknown.
