In Leiden, on Tuesday, June 3, a man was arrested on suspicion of participating in a terrorist organization, namely the Islamic State (IS). He is a 28-year-old man born in Syria who has been living in the Netherlands for some time.
The suspect is said to have been a moderator in the social media application Clubhouse, an app that revolves around (live) audio. He is also said to have participated in various groups that praise IS.
The man was arrested by the National Investigation and Intervention Unit (LO) following a report from the intelligence service AIVD to the National Prosecutors Office. During the arrest, data carriers such as laptops and mobile phones were seized, which are now being further investigated. The suspect was presented to the examining magistrate on Thursday, June 5. He decided that he would remain in custody for 14 days.
