Four suspects appeared in court today for their involvement in the riots in Scheveningen on May 1. In total, eighteen suspects have now appeared before the juvenile court.

On Thursday, May 1, 2025, a large group of youths turned against the police in Scheveningen. The riot police intervened but were pelted with stones, bicycles, and glassware. Many acts of vandalism were also committed in the area, including damage to street furniture and entrepreneurs property.

The suspects who stood trial on Monday include a 16-year-old boy from Zoetermeer, a 15-year-old boy from The Hague, a 15-year-old boy from Rotterdam, and a 14-year-old girl from The Hague. The 15-year-old from Rotterdam threw stones at a police vehicle. The other three were charged with open violence against police officers, including throwing furniture from the terrace of the ice cream parlor.

Community Service Sentences

The Public Prosecution Service demanded two community service sentences of 60 hours, one of 40 hours, and one of 30 hours. The judge imposed two community service sentences of 50 hours, one of 36 hours, and one of 30 hours, of which 10 hours were conditional.

In the investigation into the Scheveningen riots, nineteen suspects have been arrested so far. Eighteen have appeared in court. Two suspects were acquitted, while the others were sentenced to community service ranging from 30 to 80 hours. Some must also pay compensation between 150 and 250 euros to officers. The investigation is ongoing, and recently new suspects have been shown in crime programs to identify them.
