The Public Prosecution Service (OM) in Northern Netherlands has registered a case against two 20-year-old men from Leeuwarden and Winschoten for expedited justice. The two are suspected of involvement in the removal of stuffed animals at a memorial site in Winschoten. A police judge in Groningen will address this on June 10. The OM believes that the societal impact is such that an expedited justice process is appropriate.
The memorial site in question was established at the location where the children Jeffrey and Emma were killed by their father. The men are suspected of public violence, destruction, or theft.
Violence Against Memorial Site
The public prosecutor believes that the actions taken by the suspects can be classified as violence against this memorial site. Furthermore, this location has been damaged.
Pre-Trial Detention
The examining magistrate has decided that the two suspects will be released under several conditions from pre-trial detention in a few days. This is pending the hearing.
Third Suspect
In this case, there is also a third person involved. He is a minor, so his case will be handled differently. The boy has since been released but remains a suspect.
