The goal of this publication is to help politicians and policymakers engage in a sharp discussion about possible choices. What is particularly important and what may have to be sacrificed? This publication outlines twelve tasks based on the Balance of the Living Environment 2025. For each task, three choices are presented as possible directions. The chosen tasks include climate adaptation, challenges in the housing market (availability of homes and affordability), the sustainability of homes, how car traffic will be taxed as the number of electric cars increases, how the Netherlands can use resources more efficiently, the future of industry, the future of agriculture, and the restoration of nature. The international context and considerations regarding the use of space further put these tasks into perspective.
