Chase
Officers were patrolling Tuesday night in Warmenhuizen. At the height of the Kanaalweg, they encountered a car that abruptly sped away upon seeing the officers in a marked vehicle. The driver of the car exceeded the speed limit, prompting the police to signal them to stop. The driver ignored this and significantly increased their speed again. At the intersection of the Provincial Road, the driver suddenly stopped and then reversed into the police car. The suspect drove off again, leading to the chase being resumed. The suspect deliberately collided with the police car multiple times and grazed posts and trees. In Noord-Scharwoude, the car stopped and the suspect fled on foot.
Arrest
A search operation was initiated involving multiple units, a police helicopter, and a dog handler. Ultimately, the suspect was found in the bushes by service dog Quinta. The suspect has been arrested, is still in custody, and is being interrogated. The car the suspect was driving has turned out to be stolen.
