The vehicle drew attention because it was driving unusually slowly. Therefore, officers decided to check the car around 02:00. The occupants gave a disjointed story, and upon further investigation, an explosive was discovered. The area was cordoned off, and the explosive was secured by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). The three suspects are still in custody.

Additional Measures
Following the arrest of these three individuals, extra measures have been taken, both visible and invisible. This includes increased police presence and extra surveillance. Despite these measures, it could not be prevented that an explosion occurred on Monday evening around 20:45 at a residence on Slenkstraat in Purmerend and later that night at a residence on Kilstraat in Purmerend.

Due to the ongoing investigation into the suspects and their possible target, the police decided not to communicate about these arrests at an earlier stage. It is currently completely unclear whether there is a connection between the two explosions on Monday night and Tuesday night. It is also unclear whether the arrests are related to either of these explosions. The police, together with the municipality of Purmerend, will investigate what additional measures are still needed.
