The officers responded on Thursday, July 10, 2025, around 5:30 PM to a report of a man violating a shop ban on St. Janstraat in Hoeven. There they encountered a 40-year-old resident of Hoeven who was visibly under the influence. He did not comply with the instruction to leave. Instead, he reacted aggressively. After several warnings from the officers, he confronted them and even became physical. He hit an officer in the face and was therefore immediately arrested. During transport to the detention center, the suspect caused multiple damages in the police van. He will be interrogated later. The injured officer filed a report of assault.
Violence against police officers (GTPA)
The police find aggression and violence against their employees or other emergency responders unacceptable. Police officers have a responsible role in society and must be able to perform their duties without being hindered. With mutual respect. Aggression or violence, in any form, against employees is not tolerated. The police and justice system apply the same approach: reports are always recorded, offenders are prioritized by the Public Prosecution Service to be brought before the court, and a threefold higher penalty is demanded against the offenders.
