Officers had earlier initiated an investigation after fireworks were found with a consumer that did not meet packaging requirements and were not allowed to be sold. This consumer believed the fireworks were approved. In the follow-up investigation, officers traced the source to this sales point. When the police entered the premises, a buyer was attempting to place a large quantity of purchased fireworks into his car. The sale was immediately stopped.
Officers observed large quantities of fireworks stored in a warehouse and bunker; both consumer and professional fireworks. In one room, show fireworks were still being assembled. Outside, a barrel with smoldering fire remnants was present. Fireworks were also stored in the adjacent residential house.
All discovered fireworks have been seized and will be removed for destruction. The sales point has been closed by order of the municipalitys Environmental Service; the warehouse and bunker have been sealed.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was present yesterday for safety reasons because fireworks were being tampered with.
Consultations with the municipality are ongoing regarding the permit of this seller, who should have known better. The business is closed and sealed.
