National Criminal Investigation Department
An investigation was conducted at the crime scene. Because shots were fired by the police, the National Criminal Investigation Department was notified. The National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the use of the firearm by the officer. The police are investigating the motive and background of the incident.
In all cases of firearm use by police officers resulting in injury or death, the National Criminal Investigation Department, an investigative service that is part of the Public Prosecution Service, conducts an investigation. Once the investigation is completed, the Public Prosecution Service assesses whether the polices actions were lawful. To avoid disturbing or influencing the investigation, the police do not make substantive statements about the incident until the investigation results are known.
Note: because the investigation into the use of the firearm is conducted by the National Criminal Investigation Department, the communication is handled by the Public Prosecution Service.
