During the inspections, 19 temporary workers were heard as witnesses. Most of them came from the Philippines. They work through various temp agencies. The Labor Inspection is conducting further investigations into possible violations of the Minimum Wage Act and minimum vacation allowance, WagwEU, and the Foreign Nationals Employment Act.
Information-driven
The National Expertise and Operations Unit (LX), Port Police of Rotterdam, and the Dutch Labor Inspection conducted the inspections based on pre-collected information obtained during inspections aboard vessels and information from enforcement partners. This created a clear picture of the agencies currently active in inland shipping.
International Cooperation
Aquapol is a European association of police organizations dealing with safety and enforcement on water. There is close cooperation with the European Labour Authority (ELA). This international cooperation is important for more effectively detecting and addressing cross-border abuses. This joint action increases effectiveness and helps ensure fair and safe working conditions in inland shipping.
Reporting Labor Exploitation
Labor exploitation is a form of human trafficking. Coercion, violence, threats, extortion, and/or deception often play a role in labor exploitation. Cases of labor exploitation can be reported (anonymously) to the Dutch Labor Inspection via: 0800 51 51 or +31 70 333 56 78 (from abroad). Reporting is also possible to the police via 0900 8844.
