The police have received many reports of nuisance and dangerous situations in traffic caused by fatbike riders. Following the fatbike control on November 7 in Geleen, this control was held in Sittard. The control took place in Limbrichterveld and in the city center. Besides fatbikes, other vehicles were also checked. The control was conducted in cooperation with the Traffic Team of the Limburg Unit.
Pedestrian Area
Most riders received fines for riding in a pedestrian area (17) and riding on the sidewalk (5). Four fatbikes had brakes that did not function, and four fatbikes were found to be able to ride too fast.
Alcohol
One of the fatbike riders was found to be riding under the influence of alcohol and was taken to the station for a breath test.
Other Violations
Several road users were fined for violations not related to the technical condition of a fatbike. Fines were issued for driving without a license, not showing the registration certificate, riding with the helmet chin strap loose, and riding without lights.
Tuesday again made clear that, considering safety and nuisance in traffic, it is necessary to hold such controls.
