The inspections took place on various Thursdays in November in the municipalities of Leidschendam-Voorburg, Zoetermeer, Wassenaar, and Pijnacker-Nootdorp. The police cooperated with enforcement officers from the different municipalities.

During the inspections, attention was paid to the behavior of the fatbike riders as well as the technical condition of these electric bikes.

Results
A total of 279 fatbikes were checked. 97 fines were issued and 18 warnings given. Some fines related to the technical condition of the fatbikes, such as brakes in poor condition. While pedal assistance up to 25 kilometers per hour is allowed on fatbikes, this limit was exceeded on some of the fatbikes.

Some fines also concerned the riding behavior of the riders. This includes riding on sidewalks, not using mandatory bike paths, running red lights, and using phones while riding. Two riders of modified fatbikes had been fined before and their fatbikes were confiscated.

Dangerous situations
The police regularly conduct inspections focused on fatbikes due to the nuisance caused by these electric bikes. Fatbikes are often ridden faster than allowed, which frequently leads to dangerous situations and accidents.
